at tomorrow night's debate, wolf. >> we'll have a lot more on what joe biden has just said and the very tough reaction coming in from the romney campaign. gloria borger is standing by on that front. both of these campaigns are bringing major surrogates to denver to appear in the so-called spin room after the debate tomorrow night. what are you learning about the romney campaign's people who are coming in? >> reporter: wolf, it's probably no surprise rob portman, mitt romney's chief sparring partner playing barack obama in the debate, he'll be in the spin room. but we've also learned that marco rubio, the rising star, senator from florida who had a prominent role at the republican convention, he will also be in the room. it's interesting to note this comes just as mitt romney's making some new gestures in some outreach, you could say, to the latino community. notable he will be there as well. >> very interesting. thanks very, very much, jim acosta in littleton, colorado. >>> all right. this just coming in to cnn. the results of our brand new poll among latinos all over the united states. certa
needed a laugh today. thank you for making me laugh. let's talk about joe biden. he made comments yesterday about the middle class being buried. let's listen. >> this is deadly earnest. how they can justify, how they can justify raising taxes on the middle class that's been buried the last four years. how in lord's name can they justify raising their taxes with these tax cuts? >> of course, joe biden went on to clarify. but, ana, paul ryan wasted no time, seizing on those comments. good strategy? >> look, you know, i love joe biden. i don't know how every republican in america doesn't love joe biden. he is a great guy. he's fun. he is the gift that keeps on giving. i miss joe biden. we hadn't heard a gaffe from good old joe in about two or three weeks. it really had been a long time. this is what the campaigns are like today in 2012, unfortunately. we look for gaffes on each other and try to make them real big. i think when joe starts getting earnest, when he starts getting righteous and starts talking about god, watch out, because a zinger is coming out. >> speaking of zingers, t
that they have practiced like ten times. >> and let's talk about joe biden, right? >> what? >> he can talk about what joe biden said, which was the middle class have been buried for the last four years. >> again, just on the specific question, were you period better off than four years ago, they have practiced that so many times, i know they are ready for that one. >> let's be clear. >> the next four years -- >> that's a different question, not the one i was asked. >> agree. >> each one will come with a set of statistics, but so much more important for someone to get up on the high road is and take what has been -- at a time a country faces serious questions, i'm in a camp of saying this is a serious election with a small bore campaign. campaign not talking about the big issues. the person who can get there tonight and talk in a compelling way about the future is the person who could well win this debate. >> can i share experience in debates like this? a danger for both candidates. these men have been in public life for a while. campaigning forever, and there is a tendency if you are the preside
joe biden paul ryan and the republican party in general. it is well known romney's favorability numbers are lower than the president's many believe romney, mega-rich businessman, who once tied the family dog to the roof of his car, doesn't seem able to connect with a lot of ordinary voters out will but less popular than george w. bush, that's cold. for start i, romney and his campaign have done everything in their power to make americans forget about george w. bush in his eight years as president. romney avoids mentioning the form president's name. bush was nowhere to be seen at the republican convention in tampa. that's because for a lot of americans, bush's presidency brings back bad memories of the war in iraq, afghanistan, and the dismal response to the federal government to hurricane katrina, and the conditions that allowed the financial crisis of 2008 to happen, on and on. it is a long list. a few months ago, a cnn poll found bush is the least popular living ex-president. somehow he still gets better favorable ratings than the republican that wants to be our next president
